Student Class Placement Guidelines

Class placement is a process that we take very seriously; one that includes the active involvement of many professionals including teachers, reading specialists,
guidance counselor, speech therapist, school nurse, psychologist, and principal. Equal care is given each child and recommendations from a variety of sources are considered .
Parents are asked not to make requests based on what they may have heard from others about a teacher. Placements that are based on such requests may not be in the best interest of your child. Just as each child is unique, so is the teacher. Experiences that other parents may have had with their child may be totally different from what your child may have with the same person.
Keeping the above information in mind, please review our guidelines. I hope this will answer your questions. I assure you that the assignment of each child to a successful learning environment is our top priority.

Guidelines
1. All classes at all grade levels have children with a range of academic abilities.
2. All educational factors-academic, behavioral, and social, are considered. The final decision on all class placements rests with the principal after due consideration of staff recommendations.
3. Parents' requests for a child to have a particular teacher are not considered.
4. Requests for a child not to have the same teacher as a sibling are usually honored. All such requests must be in writing and will be shared with the teacher.
5. Parents who wish to make a statement about their child's academic, behavioral and social needs are invited to do so in writing to the principal. Your comments will be considered as part of our process.
There will be no individual responses to parent letters, unless some clarification is needed. There is no guarantee that we can honor requests. Parent letters must be received no later than June 1.
